Summer Opera Institute 2019

The 2019 EF Opera Institute offered singers and collaborative pianists from all over the world a unique opportunity to explore and study the operatic and art song legacies of Russia and Eurasia through an intensive educational and performing experience in New York City.
The study program included daily group diction classes and individual coachings, introductory lectures on Russian and Eurasian cultures, seminars in music career development, audition preparation training sessions, open master classes, and public performance opportunities.

The conference “Aitmatov at Ninety” provided the opportunity for a retrospective look at Aitmatov’s literary, diplomatic, and cultural legacy. Leading international scholars discussed complex topics relating to Aitmatov and issues of feminism, colonialism, and national identity. The importance of Aitmatov of Soviet film and music was considered by a number of prominent figures who knew or collaborated with Aitmatov, including award-winning Director Bolot Shamshiev, Composer and President of the Kyrgyz National Conservatory, Muratbek Begaliev, and KAF’s President, Aza Sydykov. Former Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbayeva discussed Aitmatov’s diplomatic and political legacy.
